Covid 19 Acupuncture Clinic Health and Safety Procedures

When you come in for Acupuncture, everyone’s health & safety is core to our daily operations. Accordingly I have implemented the requisite Health & Safety measures as advised by the HSE in advance of welcoming you into the clinic for Acupuncture. “Close Contact” as currently defined by the HSE is face to face within 2 metres for more than 15 minutes. Rest assured that Precautionary measures are taken to prevent close contact: The acupuncturist wears PPE (face mask, gloves & face shield).  Seating is more than 2 metres. In person time is kept to less than 15 minutes. We are also taking other measures that are now clinic policy to ensure your safety and the safety of the acupuncturist (such as disinfection procedures, etc.).

The following is not an exhaustive list, it is just some of the key policies that are in place.

Key Features of our Health & Safety measures include:

  • Patients are asked to stay home if they are experiencing illness, are having symptoms of flu or virus, have been confirmed with Covid-19 in the last 14 days, or have had any contact with someone who has been confirmed with Covid-19 in the last 14 days.  Additionally, those with compromised or weak immune systems are encouraged to stay home a bit longer.
  • Patients are asked to fill in a Pre-treatment screening form(asking questions such as have you been diagnosed with Covid-19 in the last 14 days, etc.). No patient will receive treatment if they do not fill in this form. You can view the form here.
  • Acupuncturists will be wearing a mask, face shield & gloves during treatment.
  • Upon entering the building, you are required to sanitise your hands-there is gel provided for you or you may wash your hands. Hand sanitiser is also provided throughout the clinic (in the treatments rooms, washroom, hallways etc.)
  • No patient will have to wait or sit in the waiting area or come into contact with another patient as we are scheduling appointments farther apart. In order to facilitate this, we ask that you text us when you arrive & then wait in your car or outside & we will open the door for you.  We also ask that you have family members wait for you in the car or outside unless you require assistance.
  • We are allowing additional time between patients for sanitising rooms, sanitising surfaces & exchanging the air (opening skylights & windows & air sanitiser spray), etc.
  • As always, all of our needles are single use disposable: this means a new needle is taken out of a packet & then thrown away after use.

Also please know that:

  • You can cancel a fertility acupuncture appointment at ANY time,
  • You do NOT have to give a reason for cancelling &
  • You will NOT be charged for any cancelled appointment.

Please ring or email with any questions & to schedule an appointment. We’re always happy to connect with you –

Fertility Acupuncture and Covid 19 in Ireland-We are open with New procedures

Since Fertility & IVF Clinics have reopened in Ireland, many patients have asked: What is the current state of Fertility Acupuncture and Covid 19 in Ireland? In response to the Covid-19 situation, the Irish Government has published guidelines for business’ that are opening: the Return to Work Safely Protocol-COVID-19 Specific National Protocol for Employers and Workers.  A business must self-assess in line with the government’s guidelines to determine if they are able to be open & adhere to the new requirements during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Here at MARA, we have updated our clinic policies in keeping with the Irish government’s requirements as well as Ireland’s Acupuncture Foundation Professional Association’s (AFPA) Covid-19 Supplementary Guide for “Returning to Work Safely”.

IVF Acupuncture in Ireland – COVID 19 Update

IVF Acupuncture in Ireland COVID 19 Update: We are open with New Procedures

Since IVF Clinics (like Institut Marques in Clane) have reopened, we have found that the demand for IVF Acupuncture in Ireland is once again here.  But because of the COVID 19 situation, you may find it difficult to find an IVF Acupuncturist near you who will treat you during your IVF stimulation, pre & post embryo transfer & for 2 week wait support with IVF acupuncture.

Health & Safety Protocols for IVF Acupuncture in Ireland

IVF Acupuncturists must implement the Irish government’s Health & Safety protocols in order to be open & provide their “Paramedical and essential therapy services”. There must be things like hand washing / disinfectant hand gel available for both the acupuncturist & patient.  There may be some delays for some IVF Acupuncture clinics opening simply because they do not have hand washing facilities & / or disinfectant hand gel is hard to find these days. Other Acupuncturists may not be open because the location they rent/work out of is not an essential business, so they cannot access their clinic space & they are not in control of implementing the health & safety protocols in their work location, thus they cannot ensure they are adhering to government requirements in order to treat safely.

Since we here at MARA have our own clinic space in Clane, we can be fully confident that we are adhering to & complying with the implementation of the Irish government’s Health & Safety protocols for our acupuncture paramedical and essential therapy services.

Steps we are taking here at MARA IVF Acupuncture to ensure the highest standard IVF Acupuncture care in Ireland:

  • Completion of the government’s necessary health & safety risk assessment
  • Implementation of the government’s necessary health & safety protocols
  • Completion of WHO course on Infection Prevention & Control

Can’t find IVF Acupuncture Near You that is Currently Open? Here are a few things you can do to help support your IVF cycle:

  • Mindful IVF-this a great app developed by Ireland’s own IVF Acupuncturist Gordon Mullins. It is a mindfulness app for IVF. It has specific meditations for every stage of your IVF cycle (down regulation, stimulation, egg collection, pre & post embryo transfer & 2ww, etc.). Gordon has even added some special mindfulness meditations for the Covid 19 situation-this is our best recommendation.
  • Yoga- there are so many great Yoga exercises available on the web now, just a quick google & you’ll be able to quickly & easily find a fertility yoga practice for your level, whether you’re a beginner or more advanced.
  • Fertility Feng Shui your home-simple, quick & easy to do. Staying at home? This is a great opportunity to Declutter!
  • Fertility Diet- just a quick google search here & you’ll be able to find a fertility diet to suit you. Whether it’s a special fertility dietary need like gluten free, or vegetarian fertility diet to just a regular fertility diet, you’ll be able to find something that is both tasty & doable.
  • Fertility Prayers to get pregnant– and then there is good old prayer, why not give it a try. Try St. Rita’s fertility prayer or St. Gerard fertility prayer
  • Read the Lockdown tips from Institut Marques IVF clinic

Acupuncture for Induction of Labour

Last updated: May 17th, 2020 at 11:09 am

Acupuncture for Induction of Labour

Acupuncture for the induction of labour is a procedure I have been doing every week for nearly 20 years. Helping women go into labour gently, safely & naturally is an honour & a joy.

In light of Covid 19 & the stay at home order, there is increased interest in Acupuncture for induction of labour treatments.  Most people want to avoid hospitals at the moment & for pregnant women even more than ever I am hearing that they want the least amount of interventions & to avoid the surgery of a C-section.  Acupuncture is great for helping to induce labour. If you can’t get acupuncture then acupressure to induce labour is something you can do yourself at home. I am converting my guide, “The Essential Acupressure Guide: Acupressure to Induce labour Naturally” to a more concise easy to print version & I will be making available for free here, so please do check back. .

When it comes to doing Acupuncture for the induction of labour treatments, the first priority is always the health & safety of you & your baby.

To receive acupuncture to induce labour you must:

  1. have reached your due date or
  2. are past your due date.

If you are in the weeks leading up to your due date, pregnant womanwe can utilise pre-birth/pre-labour acupuncture to help you.  We do not want to force baby out ahead of time.

We are all about using Acupuncture to induce labour naturally, safely & gently for both you & your baby. Our goal is to help you bring on labour naturally.

We are expertly trained & highly experienced in using acupuncture to induce labour.  As mentioned this is a procedure we have been doing every week for nearly 20 years.

Acupuncture for Labour Induction Success

How quickly the acupuncture starts labour varies from woman to woman. It depends on individiual factors such as whether it is your first child, are you one day over your due date or nearly 2 weeks over your due date?  I am not a fan of acupuncturists who post success rate numbers because there is no way to check if they are accurate, there is NO governing body that checks the validity of claims people make. Most of the women who come to me are by word of mouth reputation-a good friend they trust recommends me to them.  The cost is 60 euro, but if you need more than one treatment in a week, there is no additional cost (only 60 euro no matter how many times you come in during a week). We also give you receipts to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

Post Partum

Acupuncture is also really good at relieving common post partum symptoms like

  1. night sweats &
  2. Haemorrhoids, also known as piles (painful swellings containing enlarged blood vessels that are found inside or around the bum) These piles can be very common after all the pushing from giving birth, but acupuncture is very good at relieving them:)

Fertility Acupuncture Social Distancing – is it possible?

Last updated: May 17th, 2020 at 09:46 am

Fertility Acupuncture Social Distancing

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, we are all doing things differently.  I am happy to say we are NOT throwing acupuncture needles like darts from 6 feet away!

Fertility Acupuncture Social Distancing : Is it possible?

IVF clinics closed at first, but now many have reopened, prompting us getting many calls about pre & post embryo transfer acupuncture & 2 week wait acupuncture support.  It is obviously impossible to administer acupuncture & also stay 6 feet away from a person.  We can wear masks & gloves & adhere to disinfecting guidelines, but we also don’t want to take masks & gloves away from frontline essential workers.  (I personally already had a supply of gloves & masks long before the Pandemic because some of my patients have medical conditions that make them vulnerable).  This brings us to the next question:

Is an acupuncturist an essential worker?

Here in Ireland the guidelines as to who constitutes an essential worker does have some scope to include acupuncture: A category of essential worker is “paramedical and essential therapy activities” (click through for the Irish government guidelines www.Gov.ie).  However, most acupuncturists I know have chosen to voluntarily close their clinic locations temporarily because we felt a responsibility to help flatten that curve sooner than later (it is a big decision to close your business & stop one’s income). And others who do acupuncture out of their homes should have definitely stopped.

Here is a list of some of the procedures we implemented before the major COVID-19 / Coronavirus Pandemic Social Distancing / stay at home order restrictions.  When we reopen there may need to be further precautions such as the wearing of masks, gloves, etc. for both the Acupuncturist as well as patients :

  • We asked you to NOT come in if you are sick in any way.
  • Scheduling fertility acupuncture appointments farther apart
  • Hand washing &/ or using hand sanitiser before & after your appointment
  • For your use, we provide hand washing facilities &/ or hand sanitiser for your use before & after your appointment
  • Disinfecting door handles with disinfectant after every use
  • Using new, clean sheets in between appointments & wiping down treatment table with disinfectant after/between treatments
  • Regularly wiping down surfaces with disinfectant
  • Not shaking hands
  • Limiting body contact
  • As always, all of our needles are single use disposable: this means a new needle is taken out of a packet & then thrown away immediately after use.
  • No magazines in waiting area, wiping down waiting area seating after each use or asking you to wait a moment remaining standing (which should not be necessary as appointments are scheduled farther apart
  •  Letting you know it is ok for you to cancel a fertility acupuncture appointment at ANY time,
  • You do NOT have to give a reason for cancelling &
  • You will NOT be charged for any cancelled appointment

Reopening & Doing Acupuncture Social Distancing Style:

We may be wearing masks & gloves the next time you see us.  We are looking forward to reopening after the stay at home order Fertility acupuncture Social Distancingis lifted as well as any other restrictions that would inhibit us from safely administering Fertility Acupuncture.  Until then, listed below are a few things you can do on your own to help boost fertility & get that positive pregnancy test result, just click on the links:
