Institut Marques, Clane Medical Staff Update

Medical Staffing Update at Institut Marquès Clane, Co. Kildare

Since the change of ownership and re-branding from Clane Fertility Clinic to Institut Marquès there has been an interest in whether the core Consultant medical staff are staying on at Institut Marquès.

Yesterday I met with key staff and leadership of Institut Marquès in Clane and was reassured that Consultant staffing would be consistent as before and after the change of ownership. Details relating to the continuing staffing are available if you click here.

So feel free to spread the word on facebook & in the fertility forums so that any concerns are eased.

The Changeover

Recently you may have noticed some other changes with the transition to Institut Marquès.

Change is the only constant in life”  – Heraclitus

You may be noticing some changes at Institut Marquès in Clane.  There is a brand new website as well as updating the clinic premises, and I must say some very cool technology like their Embryomobile. observa-embriones-desde-el-movil This actually allows you to watch, on your smartphone, your embryos in the incubator through an embryoscope during the days between egg collection and embryo transfer.  Over the years I think I have probably heard every one of my IVF acupuncture patients say “I’m dying to know if my embryos are still growing”.  A survey carried out by Institut Marquès and presented at the European Society of Human Reproduction Congress (ESHRE) revealed that, for most patients, the experience of using the Embryomobile is “moving”, “amazing” and also “reduces anxiety”. Patients get more directly involved during the treatment and this reduces their stress levels.

Reducing stress levels is key in my Fertility Acupuncture Clinic.  You all know that I focus a lot on helping you to reduce stress (especially during the 2 week wait) and I think that the Embryomobile can be a useful tool to help reduce the stress during the uncertain time between egg collection and embryo transfer. You can learn more about the Institut Marquès Embryomobile by clicking here. If you would like to see a video of a developing embryo through the embryoscope then click here it’s pretty amazing to see new life forming.

IVF and Acupuncture Success Rates :Clinical Studies

In clinical trials, the use of  IVF and Acupuncture combined has been shown to not only contribute to reducing your stress levels & improving how you feel during your IVF cycle, but the combination contributes to & increases your chances of success.

A 2016 Clinical Study conducted by Homerton University Hospital in London found that receiving IVF and Acupuncture combined during IVF doubles the success of IVF (see reference below).

These IVF and Acupuncture success rates findings were presented to the European Society of Human Reproduction & Embryology at their 32 Annual Meeting which was held in Helsinki this July 2016.

IVF & Acupuncture hail from very different origins & their treatments work in incomparable ways.  They may, at initial glance, appear to be unlikely partners, but this is actually the beauty of combining the two modalities. IVF & Acupuncture form a Complete Mind & Body experience that adds a new dimension that helps to maximise potential.

Imagine you can maximise your potentialIVF and Acupuncture with the perfect balance of Modern IVF Technology & Ancient Healing Wisdom with Fertility Acupuncture that doesn’t hurt and that is tailored to your specific fertility boosting needs. Here at MARA, we do just that.

Another recent 2015 retrospective cohort study by Hullender Rubin LE, Et al.( Reprod Biomed Online. 2015 Jun;30(6):602-12. doi) on the use of Traditional Chinese Medicine with IVF showed that “Overall, IVF with adjuvant WS-TCM was associated with greater odds of live birth in donor and non-donor cycles.  WS-TCM is Traditional Chinese Medicine.  TCM is “a complex intervention that can include acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, dietary, lifestyle recommendations”. You can view the abstract here.

“I’m an OB-GYN, Here’s Why I Turned to Acupuncture When I Wanted To Get Pregnant.  I now recommend without hesitation that anyone going through infertility treatments consdier using acupuncture”,

About Institut Marquès

Institut Marquès is an integrated centre with a well-established, internationally recognized reputation in the field of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Assisted Reproduction. It was founded in Barcelona (Spain) more than 90 years ago and has the accreditation granted by the Spanish Healthcare Authority to perform all Assisted Reproduction techniques allowed by the current legislation. Since 2012 it has had an office in Dublin and with the recent acquisition of Clane Fertility IVF Clinic it now has a proper clinic in Ireland, where it offers the same Assisted Reproduction treatments as in Barcelona. Institut Marqués offers personalised attention based on excellence, with advanced treatments and with the best success rate, without patients having to travel to Barcelona.

For better convenience, in their Dublin office it is possible to arrange an appointment with a doctor and follow-up of a treatment. Moreover, the clinic Institut Marquès in Clane is located in a strategic position, 30 km away from Dublin and is well connected to the airport for those patients, who visit us from other countries as well as the convenience of being a mere 2 minutes from MARA Fertility Acupuncture Clinic in Clane.

Apart from the office in Ireland, they have offices in Barcelona, London, Milan and Kuwait. Leader in innovation, Institut Marquès has a team of 170 professionals and is led by Dr. Marisa López-Teijón and Leonardo Marquès Amorós.

With more than 90 years of experience, Institut Marqués has great recognition and international activity. Every year, hundreds of patients go to their Centre in Barcelona from abroad hoping to achieve a pregnancy, mainly through In Vitro Fertilisation with Egg and/or Semen Donation. The majority of these patients come from the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the United States, Canada, South America, China and Arabian countries who are attracted by the high pregnancy rates and high quality of care offered at Institut Marquès. The results obtained at Institute Marqués are only comparable to those obtained at top IVF centres in the US and Europe, but at a more competitive price and with a lower multiple pregnancy rate.

State Funded IVF in Ireland

Last updated: November 12th, 2018 at 01:36 pm

State Funded IVF in Ireland

“The ability to conceive a child naturally is a normal human expectation andState funded IVF in Ireland a diagnosis of infertility can be a source of emotional distress, physical discomfort and financial hardship,”  said Health Minister Leo Varadkar.

The Government’s decision to have State funded IVF in Ireland to fund infertility treatment will relieve some of the pressure on women who already face a hugely stressful and emotional journey, a leading support group has claimed.  Currently, IVF treatment is only available privately from clinics, pushing the treatment out of the reach of many couples.  How much does IVF cost? Click here for a price comparison list of the cost of IVF in Irish clinics.

Health Minister Leo Varadkar has confirmed his intention to provide State funded IVF in Ireland for assisted reproductive treatment in conjunction with the planned introduction of legislation saying fertility treatments should be funded in such a way “that not only maximises efficiency but which ensures equity of access as well”.

The aim is to provide public funding for assisted human reproductive (AHR) treatment in conjunction with the introduction of legislation in this area.  AHR encompasses in vitro fertilisation (IVF), pre-implantation genetic diagnosis, intra-uterine insemination, intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection and gamete donation. Currently, there are a number of fertility clinics operating in Ireland offering a broad range of AHR services, which remains largely unregulated.  The Department of Health is carrying out a review of how State funded IVF fertility treatments are funded in other countries – such as by the NHS in Britain – meaning that a scheme to relieve the financial burden attached to securing these treatments could be in place next year.

Dr Cathy Allen, consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at the Merrion Fertility clinic at the National Maternity Hospital welcomed the news. She said about one in six couples will need help. “They will experience some sort of a delay in conceiving when they want to,” she said. “For many of them a visit to their primary care physician GP can be extremely helpful, sometimes its a lifestyle adjustment that needs to be done. For people who are referred on for more expert help to secondary level fertility clinics in hospital or tertiary level assisted reproductive medicine units, about half of those will be referred on for in vitro fertilisation.”

SIMS Acupuncture , Nutrition and Immune Issues

Last updated: May 30th, 2019 at 12:05 pm

SIMS Acupuncture , Nutrition and Immune Issues Discussion

I was invited to take part in a gathering at SIMS Fertility Clinic in Clonskeagh, Dublin this past weekend discussing the integration of Acupuncture and Nutrition as well as information on immune issues and infertility. Dr. David Walsh (Clinical Director of SIMS) asked my good friend and colleague Gordon Mullins, Fertility Acupuncture Specialist, to give a talk about how Fertility Acupuncture, combined with reproductive technologies like IVF, can give greater results for patients (you can visit his website www.aculife.ie here).  Other speakers at the gathering were Doctors from SIMS, such as Dr. Kevin Marron.  They spoke about how immunological factors can impact fertility, the tests they perform at SIMS andSIMS acupuncture the treatments they give to couples experiencing immune system issues. They are making great strides and helping lots of couples with immune issues get pregnant. If you are having difficulty getting pregnant and experience any of the following, it may indicate a possible immune problem:

  • Arthritis
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Skin rashes
  • Endometriosis
  • Recurrent miscarriage
  • Hypothyroidism

At SIMS they suggest testing for immune issues when a woman has had at least 4 embryos transferred in at least 3 different transfers.  Some of the treatments they recommend would vary depending on your particular immune diagnosis.   Examples of some courses of treatment would be Aspirin, Corticosteroids, Intralipids or IV Immunoglobulin.  If you suspect you may have immune issues affecting your fertility I suggest you talk to someone like Dr. Kevin Marron at SIMS.  I spoke with him at length and he is not only very knowledgeable, but very kind as well.

It was a lovely gathering between the modalities of  IVF Doctors from SIMS Acupuncture and Nutritionists. My favourite quote of the day was from Dr. Walsh who said, “We all want to help our patients have babies”.  When people ask me what I do, it really is as simple as that, I help people to have babies.

Another speaker was Dr. Trevor Wing, best known in the UK for being a pioneering Doctor of Gynaecology helping women to conceive naturally.  His website is www.naturalgynae.com

I also met a lovely and knowledgeable nutritionist named Ciara Wright, PhD DipNT mNTOI.  She is a senior nutritionist at The Glenville Nutrition Ireland Clinic which is located in Rathgar, Dublin 6.  You can visit their website www.glenvillenutrition.ie  They are associated with the well known Nutritionist in the UK, Dr. Marilyn Glenville PhD.  If you are interested in changing your diet to enhance your chances of getting pregnant, I highly recommend you see Ciara.

SIMS Fertility Clinic regularly has free Fertility Information Events where their top fertility specialists talk about how to beat infertility.  Click here to visit the SIMS website to find out the next available open information event and register.

Always consult your doctor for medical advice and before taking any supplements, herbs or vitamins, especially if you are doing IVF.
