IVF Clinic: Those 2 words can seem very scary and daunting. If you are thinking you may want or need to see what an IVF Clinic has to offer, SIMS IVF Clinic is having a free “Discovery Day”. This is a great opportunity to see first hand what it is like inside an IVF Clinic. It’s also a great opportunity to meet the staff and to meet other couples just like you.
Dr. David Walsh, Co-founder of Sims IVF and his medical team are having a Fertility Discovery Day on Sunday, 27 September 2015 at 9.45am – 1pm. The location of the talk is at Sims IVF Clinic, Clonskeagh Road, Dublin 14, Ireland. During the day you will discover how the process of fertility works and how modern testing and treatment can optimise your chances of having a baby.
You will learn about:
After the presentations, you can tour the SIMS clinic and chat to David and the Medical Team about your particular challenge.
SIMS ask that you please reserve a place in advance, so that they know that you are coming. Their Discovery Days are popular, so they recommend early booking.

Author Linda Ryan, BA, Lic TCM, CH
What I really like about Emma’s book is that it contains more than just what to feed your body, it was designed to nourish the mind as well as the body. Emma understands as I do, that your mindset can have a huge impact on your fertility. By doing things that can nourish your mind you can benefit your fertility. Her book contains relaxation techniques as well as over 60 recipes and weekly planners to help before and during IVF. This is an easy to follow IVF recipe book, that is much more than just a recipe book. And it’s downloadable so you can get it straight away.
What I like about Zita’s book is that it includes a detox programme and it includes specific topics such as endometriosis and PCOS. It is easy to follow and contains 80 recipes, with convenient meal planners. As well as a paperback version it is available on Kindle so you could get it straight away as well. The first part of the book contains nutrition advice and the second part has the recipes. On Zita’s website her ivf recipe book costs 14.99 sterling for the paperback version.

Emma Cannon, author of ‘The Baby-Making Bible’ has a new e-book now available called ‘Fertility to Family.’ In this new IVF recipe book, she outlines a healthy eating plan that can assist with conceiving naturally as well as including a week by week diet plan to support those going through an IVF cycle.
Emma states, “A major part of what I do as a practitioner is to support couples through fertility treatment; giving the patient some fine-tuning with acupuncture, helping the body and helping to create a calm mind. ‘I know that food and thought are two of the core pillars that underpin a foundation for health. The process of going through IVF provides it own challenges and there is much you can do to support that process through preparation and during IVF treatment itself.I’m thrilled to announce the publication of my new book, Fertility to Family: IVF Support (£9.99). The fully illustrated book is available as an ebook and is the culmination of a year writing recipes and bringing together my experience with patients over many years who have been through IVF. I hope that it provides the kind of support I give to my patients, and that the recipes will nourish, comfort and inspire. A reader just told me they are now ‘dreaming of steak and miso butter’, while others have been enjoying aduki beans for the first time! There are relaxation techniques included, and it’s a book that works for you whether you are beginning to think about a more fertility friendly lifestyle, are planning for IVF or going through it.”

The Zita West website says, “More and more couples these days are interested in natural ways to improve their fertility. And having the best possible diet is one of the most important ways in which you can help make a big difference. In this fabulous new full-colour cook-book Zita shows you 80 tasty and easy to prepare recipes that are packed full of all the most important nutrients your body needs to prepare for a successful pregnancy.
There’s an easy-to-follow guide on to how to assess your overall fertility too. As well as a great detox plan to help you cleanse your body. Plus everything you need to know about Zita’s special 10 Week Fertility Boosting Programme. There’s specific advice for men as well as for women (of course) as well as advice for couples trying for a baby later in life, and for women with specific problems such as fibroids, endometriosis or PCOS.”

Nurturing yourself is about being kind to yourself. Be kind in the thoughts you think about yourself. Nurturing yourself is about getting enough sleep. Nurturing yourself is about saying to no to things you really do not want to do. Nurturing yourself is about getting exercise that is rejuvinating, not depleting. It’s also about keeping the lines of communication open between you and your partner. Intimacy is very nurturing. IVF is often kept a secret from everyone else in your life, so lean on each other and be open and honest. If needed, give each other some space to process things. Try to go over any issues or concerns before the IVF cycle starts so that you are both on the same page about things. For example, decide if you both will go to every scan, or who will administer the injections. Having a good idea of what you want from each other will help eliminate unnecessary stress.
Consider doing a short detox for a few days to prepare before IVF. This can be helpful to rid your body of built up toxins. Also stay away from alcohol, caffeine, sugar and over the counter drugs. A nutritionist can help you with a detox plan to suit your needs, lifestyle and timeframe. A detox can last from a few days to a few weeks. Google ivf nutritionist in your location to find an experienced professional. Visit www.positivenutrition,ie to get an idea of how you can detox to prepare for IVF.
Maya abdominal massage is another great way to cleanse your system and prepare for IVF. Adrienne Egan is certified in Maya abdominal massage. Her website states “When applied, the Maya Abdominal Therapy techniques guide internal abdominal organs into their proper position for optimum health and well being. The technique works by relieving congestion and blockages to improve the flow of chi and fluids of the circulatory, lymphatic and nervous systems to prevent the progression of chronic disease symptoms. Maya therapy improves organ function by releasing physical and emotional congestion from the abdomen.” Click on Adrienne’s website here for more information or google maya abdominal massage in your location to find a practitioner near you.
Equipping your body with essential nutrients ensures that your reproductive system is prepared for a successful pregnancy. You can’t make something from nothing. Zita West and Emma Cannon both have great IVF diet recipe books, you can read more about them here IVF diet cookbooks
Always consult your doctor for medical advice and before taking any supplements, herbs or vitamins, especially if you are doing IVF.

Nobody wants to have to go to an IVF Clinic, but for my clients who are getting Fertility Clinic assistance they often say that just taking that first step was the hardest part and that once you’re there, it gets better and once you have your baby in your arms, well, you don’t mind at all that you went the IVF Fertility Clinic route.
I have several clients who have attended previous open information meetings at Clane Fertility Clinic and at SIMS Fertility Clinic. The feedback that they give is very positive. Their comments ranged from the comforting feeling they got from seeing and meeting so many other normal people just like them who are trying to conceive and seeking assistance like IVF, IUI and even egg donation to feeling a lot less scared because they learned what is involved in undertaking a procedure such as IVF. People also felt more comfortable having met some of the fertility doctors and staff and just walking inside an IVF clinic helped some to overcome their anxiety about seeking assistance. They also said they felt no pressure to sign up and that the staff was very helpful.
There are upcoming open information meetings in February 2014 at Clane Fertility Clinic, SIMS and Beacon CARE Fertility Clinic:
Have you attended an IVF Clinic open information meeting? If you have any advice about these meetings that would help others in their fertility journey, please leave a comment.
