fertility acupuncturist in fertility acupuncture clinic

Are there any negatives to acupuncture for fertility?

Are there risks when getting Fertility Acupuncture?

When it comes to fertility, trying to get pregnant (whether naturally or with IVF), there are many nuances to be aware of from the different medications, supplements a woman may be taking to always being aware that they may be pregnant and NOT using the acupuncture points that are contraindicated for early pregnancy. When done properly, acupuncture has few side effects and risks and many benefits.

A great Fertility Acupuncturist will have enough experience to be aware of the many nuances that vary from one woman’s ttc journey to the next: The different fertility diagnoses (PCOS, Endometriosis, etc) procedures, medications, supplements a woman is taking.

It is crucial to always being aware that they may be pregnant at any time and NOT use the acupuncture points that are contraindicated for early pregnancy.

Some investigative fertility procedures can leave a woman’s abdomen very tender, certain medications thin the blood and increase the risk of excess bleeding from the needles. These are just some of the things your Fertility Acupuncturist should be aware of and able to cater for giving the most effective treatment with what the patient is undergoing.

Risks can include:

  • bleeding or bruising at the needle sites– usually due to inexperience of acupuncturist, I have over 23 years of experience administering acupuncture.
  • infection from unsterilized needles– I only used sterile single use needles
  • excessive bleeding if a person has a clotting disorder or uses blood thinners– this is important when doing IVF if your Doctor has prescribed a blood thinner like Clexane or aspirin. I have extensive experience safely treating those on blood thinners.

The Equipment: Needle Safety

Acupuncture is safe when practitioners use sterile, proper equipment: Needles should be sterile, non-toxic, and labeled for single use.

I only use single use sterile, non-toxic needles, pre packaged and labelled for single use. One needle used one time on one person. I take it a step further and also use the thinnest and smoothest high quality needles available for your comfort and a pain free experience.

The National Center for Complementary & Integrative Health states: “Relatively few complications from using acupuncture have been reported. However, complications have resulted from use of nonsterile needles”

The Acupuncturist: Training & Experience are crucial

A person considering acupuncture should look for a practitioner with proper training: A Registered Acupuncturist has completed a full time 3 year course including teaching clinic hours to practice under supervised guidance before inserting needles on their own. Dry Needling is Acupuncture that has been taught with very little training, usually it’s just a one weekend course.

To minimize the risks, a person should always choose a qualified, experienced Acupuncturist. An inexperienced acupuncturist may push a needle in too far, resulting in an injury or even a punctured lung.

As mentioned above: a great Fertility Acupuncturist will have enough experience to be aware of the many nuances that vary from one woman’s ttc journey to the next: The different fertility diagnoses (PCOS, Endometriosis, etc) procedures, medications, supplements a woman is taking. And crucially always being aware that they may be pregnant at any time and NOT use the acupuncture points that are contraindicated for early pregnancy. Some investigative fertility procedures can leave a woman’s abdomen very tender, certain medications thin the blood and increase the risk of excess bleeding from the needles. These are things your Fertility Acupuncturist should be aware of and able to cater for giving the most effective treatment with what the patient is undergoing.

Fertility Acupuncture with me: I aim to provide the best Fertility Acupuncture treatment experience

I have been a Fertility Acupuncturist for over 23 years and work closely with IVF Clinics, I have even worked in IVF Clinics giving Acupuncture. I am also a Registered Acupuncturist in good standing, having completed a full time 3 year Licentiate that included supervised clinical training. I genuinely specialise in the true sense of the word in that I actually only treat fertility issues, I don’t just have and “interest” in treating fertility while also treating anything and everything else that patients show up with.

My clinic is a proper clinic located on the Main Street in Clane, I do not treat out of a spare room in my home or a shed out back or rent space from another business. I have professional and comfortable treatment rooms in my own clinic space.

And as mentioned earlier, I only use single use sterile, non-toxic needles, pre-packaged and labelled for single use. One needle used one time on one person. I take it a step further and also use the thinnest and smoothest high quality needles available for your comfort and a pain free experience.
